Sikongo District Is Set To Have A Morden Hospital

Sikongo District is set to mark a major milestone in its healthcare development following the acquisition of a 26.9 hectare site for the construction of its first ever modern district hospital.

Sikongo Town Council has confirmed that construction works are expected to commence in June 2026 after the completion of the procurement process. Once operational, the hospital will significantly improve access to quality healthcare services for the people of Sikongo District and surrounding communities.

The state of the art facility will comprise key medical and support infrastructure, including an administration block, Outpatient Department (OPD), operating theatre, maternity wing, mortuary and ten staff houses, among other essential facilities designed to meet modern healthcare standards.

Few weeks ago, a joint technical team from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Infrastructure, on the picture below, the housing and Urban Development Headquarters in Lusaka conducted a site visit to assess the location and lay groundwork for the smooth implementation of the project.

The construction of the district hospital is estimated to cost approximately K130 million and underscores the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and infrastructure development in rural and newly established districts.

This landmark project is expected to enhance service delivery, reduce patient referrals to distant health facilities and improve overall health outcomes in Sikongo District.
